Died on January 6th, 1919 of an arterial blood clot
In office 1901-1909

He was, in no particular order, a cowboy, a cop, a conservationist, a boxer, a war hero, a naturalist, a hunter, a historian, an explorer, a trustbuster, a mountain climber, and a ditch digger. Theodore Roosevelt pursued "the strenuous life," yet he found sufficient time to write more then 30 books, to earn the Noble Peace Prize, and to be president of the United States
Roosevelt famously believed in the West African proverb, "Speak softly and carry a big stick" (he sometimes forgot the first part). Under his leadership, the United States took its place as a world power, its role in part defined by the enormous energy and confidence of its youngest president. He left the Panama canal and millions of Acres of protected wilderness as his legacy.
Roosevelt did all that he did with a robust style and a wide toothy grin that wordlessly proclaimed what he also declared: "No president has ever enjoyed himself as much as I have."
